This was originally meant to be posted on November 19th; I had hopes to add more photos, but they are trapped on Ben’s blackberry thus I haven’t been able to access them. Some other time, I suppose. In the meantime, here’s where you can find out more about the ice rink.
Christmas season is upon us, and that means that London is readying the ice rinks. Every year from late November to mid January, some of london’s key landmarks are transformed into festive skating rinks. To name a few, Tower of London, the EDF Energy Centre, Hyde Park, and Somerset House. It’s this last venue that I visited last evening. I was a lucky winner of two tickets to the Premiere Night at Somerset House, courtesy of Stylist Magazine. This gave me free skate rental and an hour on the ice rink.
You may be questioning my skating ability at this point, and I will freely admit that I was very nervous to step onto the ice, but much like riding a bike, skating is one of those skills that comes back easily. Alas, I can’t say the same for the majority of the Brits on the ice, as they awkwardly shuffled along the boards for the entire session. I had great joy watching Ben – who was my guest and much like most Canadian boys, has a few years of hockey under his belt- as he whizzed past the frightened skaters. I enjoyed it so much that I took a video.

I must go skating to Somerset House soon. It looks too pretty to pass up.
