Daytrip to Portsmouth?

Daytrip to Portsmouth?

Southern railways sent me an email offering 25% off advance fare tickets. Not a bad deal when tickets to the south are offered at less than 10£ a pop. I’ve decided that this weekend coming, I’d like to visit Portsmouth, and I’m opening the invite to any expats or other friends that are reading this.

My plan is to go on Saturday or Sunday, just for a daytrip. Train leaves Victoria in the morning and we’ll return that evening after dinner, perhaps?

I don’t know much about Portsmouth but I’m always up to explore. Here’s a bit of wiki’s explanation of tourist attractions:

Most of Portsmouth’s tourist attractions are related to its naval history. In the last decade Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard has been given a much needed face-lift. Among the attractions are the D-Day museum (which holds the Overlord embroidery)[84] and, in the dockyard, HMS Victory, the remains of Henry VIII’s flagship, the Mary Rose (raised from the seabed in 1982), HMS Warrior (Britain’s first iron-clad warship) and the Royal Naval Museum. Many of the city’s former defences now host museums or events. Several of the Victorian era forts on Portsdown Hill are now tourist attractions. Fort Nelson is now home to the Royal Armouries museum,[85]Fort Purbrook and Fort Widley are activities centres.[86] The Tudor era Southsea Castle has a small museum, and much of the seafront defences up to the Round Tower are open to the public. The southern part of the once large Royal Marines Eastney Barracks is now the Royal Marines Museum.[87] There are also many buildings in the city that occasionally host open days particularly those on the D-Day walk which are seen on signs around the city which note sites of particular importance in the city to Operation Overlord.

Let me know by Wednesday if you’d like to join and which day you prefer.
