Hunstanton Beach

Hunstanton Beach

Warm in the sun on the beach in Hunstanton

Over the August long weekend, Jen and I stay-cationed to West Norfolk to see Sea Henge (refer to this post here) and on our last day we tripped to Hunstanton, partly to see the remarkable beach, and also because I really wanted pie.

Hunstanton has broad sandy beaches and there are plenty of rock pools to explore at the base of the cliffs and around the groynes. It is the only coastal town in East Anglia to face west, and is renowned for its sunsets over the sea.

The quality of its beaches has been recognised in its 2010 Blue Flag Award. The Award recognises those coastal resorts that provide good quality water and high standards of safety and beach services.

Old Hunstanton beach is a popular venue for the exciting sport of kite surfing.  (Hunstanton Directory)

It was a really lovely day, and there were kite surfers, wind surfers, and even some regular ole surfers (the waves were small though so I don’t how they were surfing). It rekindled my desire to do watersports. There’s a watersport centre attached to my gym, so when I restart my membership in November perhaps I’ll look into that. I digress.

Hunstanton’s beach was very picturesque, but unfortunately the town had no pie. Here are some photos of our time there. On the bus ride to and from, we passed Sandringham House – you may recall the name if you have seen The King’s Speech. If we had more time, I would have liked to have stopped for a spot of tea with the Queen.

Sandringham House is a country house on 8,000 hectares (20,000 acres) of land near the village of Sandringham[1] in Norfolk, England. The house is privately owned by the British Royal Family and is located on the royal Sandringham Estate, which lies within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. (Wiki)
